Authors Notes for 'The Hunter's Kiss.'

The Author's Notes for my Labyrinth Fanfic, The Hunter's Kiss.

For some reason, I didn't feel like bogging down THK with my author's notes at the end, so here they are.

It's been a very long time since I was able to write anything creative. Apart from one very short christmas gift fic, and a couple of 100 word drabbles, it's been well over two years since I completed anything. And I'll be honest, what I wrote prior to my writer's block amounted to little more than porn - which was okay with me then, and is okay with me now. The difference now, I suppose, is THK actually has a plot. I don't know how apparent it is, but it's there :P

I know this fic isn't perfect; I'm even afraid it's a little boring. I don't actually explain a whole lot over the course of it, because with this one I preferred to let the reader fill in some of the gaps.

I was inspired to write THK a couple of months ago, when I was reading up on some old Irish and Scottish Mythology. This lead me to a couple of websites detailing the 'signs' of the fair folks presence, and being very into the movie 'Labyrinth' at the time (and I still am), it got me thinking; what if I took a slightly more pagan approach to the Labyrinth world? It always seemed obvious to me that, being the King of the Goblins (who are themselves classed as faeries), Jareth was obviously one of the Fae, and in my mind it fit perfectly that, Fae mythology being so pagan, the Underground would have a very pagan side to it too, buried beneath all that medieval imagery. And what if Sarah saw signs of other types of Fae? Would it mean anything?

Beltane entered into the fic because... well, I like Beltane. I went to a 'Beltane' party last year and it was a fun time for me, and it fit - nay, shaped the pagan theme. I did some quick reading on paganism and their various rituals and beliefs, and asked someone very close to me (who is a pagan) about Beltane. Despite that, I didn't incorporate much of my admittedly scant research into the fic because I really like waving my creative license around.

With this story, I tried to keep a few things subtle. What was actually going on with Jareth and Sarah on Beltane, for example. Are they possessed? Spellbound? Simply primal? I want the reader to decide. And I realise I never explained what happened to Buttercup. You readers can decide that for yourselves too.

I guess I don't have anything left to say about it. Feel free of course to comment here or on the fic at FF.net, and leave advice (very much sought after in my case) or concrit. I'd appreciate it.

Fanvid rec:

I very, very rarely watch fan vids, primarily because (like fan fiction) 99% of them are crap (and seem to be made to songs by Evanescence :x), and as a dial-up user it takes me a long time to filter out the good stuff from the crap - which I can't be bothered doing. However, based on the replies this particular fan video got, I decided to give it a try. I'm not disappointed.

Well, the first bit of writing I've done in a while (apart from the disaster I consider my jedi__santa to have been). I'm a bit nervous :x

Three Drabbles Featuring Christmas (But Are About Chloe and Lex).

1. No crib for a bed...

She didn’t know exactly what she’d expected, but a hurried fuck up against the wall wasn’t quite it. Oh, she’d known damn well not to anticipate any sweet words, lingering caresses or tender kisses, but… just-shy-of-public wall sex? No. She’d thought Lex had more finesse than that.

Not that she regretted her current position. He was strong, and he seemed to know where to touch her, and really, had it ever felt this good? Even the kids singing songs in the background added just that little something to the atmosphere.

Easily the most memorable Christmas party she’d been to yet.

2. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…

Snow crunched under her feet, and Chloe couldn’t help but smile as her breath fogged the air. When she was little, she’d pretend it was cigarette smoke making those patterns and dissipating in the breeze; she’d thought it was trés cool.

She passed a Santa Clause on the corner, and impulsively bought one of his candy canes to raise funds for orphans.

Later, she stopped by Lex’s place and gave him the candy; in a very roundabout way that could only really be justified in her head, even Lex Luthor had done his bit for the children this Christmas Eve.

3. Then one foggy Christmas Eve…

If asked, he’d never admit it – hell, he probably wouldn’t admit it if threatened, blackmailed or bribed, - but Lex Luthor enjoyed watching Chloe Sullivan sleep. It’d started in his teen years as something vaguely stalkerish but perfectly justifiable to him; she was pretty, he was bored, and when he watched her smile softly in her dreaming… the world made more sense.

Tonight, though, there was nothing stalkerish about it; she was where she wanted to be, in his arms and dreaming of popcorn and mistletoe and other warm Christmassy things, and he could watch her sleep, safe and sound.

Tomb Raider: Legend mood theme

A 'Tomb Raider: Legend' mood theme. Features multiple 'Tomb Raider: Legend' characters (but mostly Lara :x). 132 images, maybe one or two double-ups. Images thieved from various places on the web, such as tombraiderchronicles.com, tombnews.com and the odd forum archive.

Instructions for 'Paid/Plus' users:

1. First thing's first. Unzip the folder and load all the images (132 of them, hopefully) onto an image hosting site of your choice. Personally, I prefer Photobucket. Do Not change any of the file names.

2. Go to the LJ admin console.

3. Copy and paste the following into the text box:

moodtheme_create "Title" "Short Description"

Replace "Title" with whatever title you've chosen for the mood theme (e.g. "Tomb Raider: Legend Mood theme"), and do the same for "Short Description" (e.g. "A TRL mood theme").

Click the 'execute' button. If you haven't messed up, you'll be given a number. Do Not lose the number! Write it down, or keep the window aside and open.

4. In the zip file is a .txt document called 'adminconsolecodes'. Open it and use the replace tool (under 'edit') to replace all the #####'s with the number you were given previously. Also replace 'http://www.yoursite.com/' with the url to where your images are stored.

5. Highlight the whole thing, copy it and paste it into the admin console text box. Click 'execute'. The page should then list the codes. If it doesn't, go back over what you've done so far and correct the mistake.

6. Go the the Modify Journal page. The option to change your mood theme is under 'Look and Feel'. Choose your mood theme and click 'save changes'.

That's it. You should now have little TRL characters conveying your moods on your journal page :)
